DEVIL MAY CRY 5 REVIEW

Tyanimations321

Gameplay

The combat in this game is at it’s finest for the series. The combat is easy and fluid which gives a good feel for newbies and a good feel for the vets of the series. Every character has a playstyle that makes them unique in every which way. If I had to rate each character from easiest to hardest then it would go like this. V would be the easiest, Then Dante, and after Dante would be Nero.

V’s Gameplay

Devil May Cry’s newest character V is unlike any other character in the series. He is a mysterious individual who summons demons to help him in combat. Longtime fans would notice that they are similar to the bosses in the first Devil May Cry. Griffon serves as his long-ranged weapon while Shadow serves as his melee weapon. His third demon Nightmare can be summoned when V enters his Devil Trigger. All demons have their unique properties which are excellent for mix-ups even with their devil trigger forms.

V’s combat is pretty easy to get used to, V doesn’t physically have to fight, His demons do. While he’s far back reading his book to charge up his Devil Trigger, Shadow and Griffon do the work. It’s easy to keep your distance but it’s a bit difficult to keep track of them in combat. Aside from V’s uniqueness in combat, his summons doesn’t kill the other demons, he has to which has a unique animation to it. V’s the easiest for people that are new to the series and his gameplay is something that gets the vets of the series attention.

Dante’s Gameplay

Dante’s gameplay is well, just Dante. It reminisces his playstyle from DMC4. We still have our 4 styles, (Trickster, Sword Master, Royal Guard, and Gun Slinger) which all have their own unique properties. The Dante we all know, and love has a variety of weapons and this may be the best selection he has yet, From the double Kalina Ann's to the Devil Sword Dante. Yeah, it shocked me too. To the returning Nunchuckas. Dante's weapons are always unique.

Now the thing that gets everyone excited is his Devil Trigger, No not that one, The Sin Devil Trigger. This is just introduced and it’s pretty short-lived, but people make the most with it. It’s the powered-up version of Devil Trigger that consumes Devil Trigger. It makes things easier to kill and it helps with stylish points. Dante’s a bit tricky to people starting the series but, he more for the vets of the series.

Nero’s Gameplay

Nero's gameplay is similar to how he plays in Devil May Cry 4, the game where he was first introduced. Nero's gameplay has slightly changed though because of what happened at the beginning of the game. So, he has the Devil Breaker because he doesn’t want to bring devils anymore. With this mechanical arm, it has different variations that try to suit the players' playstyle. My most used ones were the Punch Line which sends the arm flying and hits the enemy multiple times and the buster which gave me that DMC4 Nero feel. Nero is a bit more difficult to combo with than Dante and V because you have to break a devil breaker to use another one and when you need one, you don’t have it because you have another one equipped or don’t have anymore. So, he’s a bit tricky for certain areas in stages. But then he’s get’s better but I’ll save that for the later part of the review.

Missions

The missions were different from the previous entries in the series, they felt linear and more combat-based than solving many puzzles. Most of the missions felt fluent with the story as they should. Most of the missions were large areas that had unique pathways for certain characters. Some of them you had to summon Nightmare when using V, others you had to use a certain devil breaker with near, and Dante was straight forward and to the point. The missions had many secrets including secret missions and hidden fragments which if you collect 4, you are able to increase your health and devil trigger gauge, so there’s a reason to go back and try to collect everything.

Enemies

The enemies were pretty… interesting to say at the most. Some fodders were insects while the other ones were really unique. But each enemy had their own unique properties which made the player think about how they should act and what tactics they should use. They did a good job with how they were created and how they acted against players. They are on par with the enemies from the first Devil May Cry.

Now the bosses were something else, these bosses were fairly interesting, but they felt easy, well except Urizen but we all know why. Not many of the bosses gave me trouble until I got towards the end. The only boss that really gave me trouble was the three times I fought Urizen but other than that. That bosses were easy but not too challenging but the final boss.

Soundtrack

This might be one of the best soundtracks in a Devi May Cry game. Most of the soundtrack fit the right moments in the game and even the battle themes fit each character. And we all know what everyone favorite theme is *plays Devil Trigger*

Story

This is where the spoilers begin.

Considering that the game takes place after DMC 4 which is after 2 apparently. That’s kind of confusing but makes sense. The story does well to wrap up the sons of Sparda saga. But I don’t think this will be the last time we see Dante and Vergil. We learned of V’s and Urizen origins and them being Vergil this whole time. We got some character development for V, Nero, Dante, and Vergil. The story was pretty well paced, it didn’t seem too fast or too slow. And every character got some screen time which is good.

The story had some memorable moments, Nero finding out who Vergil is, Dante clashing with his brother, and especially when Nero finally used his devil trigger. That was so beautiful and his Devil Trigger. Even the final battle felt interesting. Well, the aftermath was anticlimactic, but we can just overlook that. There were some things that left me questioning because some things were unexplained but the game overall is great.

Conclusion/ Overall /Final Thoughts

Devil May Cry 5 does the series justice with its great gameplay, great storyline, and great graphics. The game lived up to its hype and it best in the series and after that one is Devil May Cry 3. The combat is really solid for veterans and new players to the series. The story does an excellent job of dividing between the 3 protagonists. This game has done a great job concluding the son of Sparda saga.

It gives everything a Devil May Cry fan would want in the game. Now we need Vergil again.
